Abstract
While online-only labor platforms (OoLPs) provide flexibility and autonomy, they also employ algorithmic management to monitor workers. This study investigates the interplay between components of algorithmic management (i.e., control and justice) and workers’ reactions (i.e., trust and behavior) towards OoLPs. Drawing on control theory, justice theory, and social exchange theory, we developed our model and validated it using data from 175 online workers in India. Our findings show that while algorithmic control negatively affects online workers’ behavior, algorithmic justice and trust in OoLP can mitigate this negative effect, contributing to a more balanced understanding of online workers' experience in OoLP.
