Abstract
In response to the growing importance of sustainable development within the information systems field, we issued a call for papers in 2024 focused on the role of emerging technologies in addressing this pressing global challenge. The scholarly engagement was substantial, resulting in a rich collection of 18 papers. This editorial introduces the special issue by outlining its motivation and context, describing the collaborative process behind its creation, summarizing the key contributions of the accepted papers, and offering reflections on future research directions. Together, these works explore the complex relationship between emerging technologies and sustainability, providing valuable perspectives for academics, practitioners, and policymakers.
