Abstract
The advances in fifth-generation (5G) cellular technologies will be critical in driving economic development via numerous opportunities and applications. This transformational technology is integral to the process of realizing the full potential of the Internet of Things, edge computing, artificial intelligence technologies, and analytics in the real world. The purpose of this panel report is to disseminate multi-faceted perspectives on 5G to more holistically understand its various aspects, such as spectrum allocations, network slicing, edge computing, cloud radio access network (C-RAN), various industries and use cases, business models, 5G network analytics, deployment, vulnerabilities, and to stimulate an engaging discussion on 5G. Three industry executives with expertise in the telecom industry along with three academics knowledgeable in the 5G and wireless telecom field share their perspectives and insights on 5G. They also discuss the research agenda for the Information Systems field.
