Abstract
This study uses the lens of self-determination theory (SDT) to examine employee perceptions of fairness and motivation after receiving negative feedback from an AI-enabled chatbot under different chatbot design conditions. Specifically, we utilize a 2 (dominant/submissive) X 2 (rhetoric-logos vs. rhetoric–logos, pathos, ethos) experiment. The findings will contribute to the overall discourse about the use of AI-enabled tools and their effects on employee motivation.
