Abstract
AI is no longer just a concept or hype; it is an integral part of daily life. Although AI is increasingly used in project environments for tasks such as automated scheduling, reporting, and machine-learning-based forecasting of risks, costs, and resource needs, research remains fragmented regarding how AI influences all project management processes. Limited work systematically examines which AI capabilities are applied across the five PMBOK process groups, or how these applications shape project performance, opportunities, and risks.
This systematic literature review (SLR) synthesizes peer-reviewed studies to identify (a) the types of AI techniques applied within each project management process group and (b) the project management domains most affected by AI adoption. By consolidating diverse technical and conceptual research, this study provides an integrated understanding of AI-enabled project management and offers insights into how AI influences project success and organizational decision-making.
