Abstract
The paper examines the perceptions of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) managers towards the use of sharing economy (SE) platforms supported by generative artificial intelligence (AI) as a tool of resource sharing, with a focus on how they contribute to improvements in sustainability. We have used a mixed-method technique; the study has used narrative inquiry to obtain the lived experience of SME managers who utilize SE platforms to optimize resources actively. These narratives provided qualitative insights into managerial decision-making, platform trust perceptions, and digital sharing services' perceived environmental value. On these results, a quantitative survey produced 502 valid answers from SME managers in various fields. These findings can provide practical information to policymakers in order to facilitate the SE services to assist the SMEs through promoting access. Lastly, this research contributes to the growing evidence on scaling sustainable practices in SMEs through generative AI sharing platforms. The research indicates that technological competence prevails over environmental awareness, which demonstrates the necessity of SMEs to increase sustainability reporting by organized digital skill advancement, data analysis and interpretation capabilities to impel the adoption of the sharing economy.
