Abstract

As organizational leaders and employees navigate the new landscape of hybrid work, two additional technological innovations are quickly becoming prevalent: Human-AI Collaboration and new forms of presence in virtual environments such as the Metaverse. While both developments are still in the early stages, the example of generative AI has shown how fast emerging technology can have important implications for organizational practices. But how do we study something that has not yet materialized? In this paper, we apply web-based horizon scanning and develop four narratives, based on tasks in McGrath's group task circumplex, to engage with the future of work. Beyond dis-cussing the possible implications of the narratives and providing exemplary research questions, we explore and discuss horizon scanning as a future-looking methodology for information systems re-search.
