Abstract

In response to the growing momentum for Open Science within the Information Systems (IS) discipline, this editorial announces and details the implementation of an optional Open Peer Review (OPR) process at Communications of the Association for Information Systems (CAIS). Moving beyond traditional single-blind review, this initiative introduces elements of disclosed and signed reviews, alongside transparent post-publication commentary, all while maintaining editor mediation. This paper outlines the principles of Open Science and the characteristics of OPR, discusses the potential benefits and drawbacks, and explains the novel OPR workflow being offered to CAIS authors. By embracing this optional pathway, CAIS aims to enhance transparency, accountability, and the overall quality and accessibility of IS research, positioning itself as a potential leader in fostering more open scholarly practices within the field.
