Abstract

The phrase “quiet quitting” born on TikTok has become a national conversation across the media since late August 2022. “Quiet quitting” indicates the acts of employees who stay on the job but stop putting in significant effort. We were interested in examining how “quiet quitting” alters employee retention which could potentially cause organizational information security vulnerabilities. Drawing upon social exchange theory, we aim to explore the potential moderating effect of organizational support on the relationship between employment retention and information security policy compliance. We hypothesize that organizational support could mitigate the tension between employment turnover and non-compliance. This study highlights the need for organizational strategies to promote security awareness among retained employees.
