Description

Accurate recommendations, which create a "filter bubble" and filter invalid information for users, could also result in negative behavior such as intermittent discontinuance. Drawing on the SOR model together with perceived value and perceived risk theories, our research explores the mechanism of how recommendation accuracy impacts users' intermittent discontinuance. By combining SEM and fsQCA methods, we enrich the understanding of the mechanism by analyzing the role of both one single variable and variables configurations. The results by SEM methods show that recommendation accuracy will positively result in perceived enjoyment, information usefulness, time distortion, and information narrowing, leading to intermittent discontinuance. Further, fsQCA illustrates that the cause of users’ intermittent discontinuance can be classified as information narrowing dominative variables configurations and time distortion dominative variables configurations. Last, the impact of recommendation accuracy on perceived time distortion is moderated by usage type. Both theoretical and practical implications are discussed.
