Abstract
Currently, companies are increasingly integrating their Information Systems (IS) to improve operational efficiency and information exchange. Although numerous integration approaches have emerged over the years, organizations often resort to ad-hoc methods, which can lead to sub-optimal solutions, integration failures, and resource wastage. This paper aims to report a qualitative study designed to understand the processes, obstacles, and challenges of IS integration. Using the Grounded Theory methodology, interviews were conducted with 12 experienced professionals. An online survey, with 19 responses, complemented the primary data. As a result, a conceptual model was developed to explain how professionals perceive the integration process and a taxonomy of integration challenges. These understandings will help professionals avoid common problems and build efficient integration solutions.
