Abstract
Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly used to support clinical decision-making, yet evidence of the impact of information-generating AI, where AI produces new clinical information, on physician decision quality and efficiency remains limited. We examine the role of information-generating AI in the context of AI-augmented diagnostic procedures of coronary artery disease, which physicians can use to guide diagnostic and treatment decisions. By examining the impact of information-generating AI on physician care quality and efficiency, this study offers critical insights for hospitals, payers, and policymakers seeking to understand how AI can be integrated into diagnostic pathways to improve physician diagnosis and decision making to advance value-based care.
