Description

Time is a variable which has known evolution in analysis for IS research papers. In first reflections, this concept wasn’t central to analyze processes in IS topics. With increasing researches, the time concept has known a deeper understanding exploring theories and using methodological approaches. More specifically, in longitudinal case studies, time in its construction has an interesting treatment. From mechanical to social time perspective, researcher and object role evolve in IS studies. Through a meta-analysis of 134 IS papers, our objective is to analyze the relationship between time perception and the methodological approach, and enhance how theories are built around time. A typology of four theories emerged: strategic actor theory, actor-network theory, resource-based view, system theory. The goal is to understand the relationship between time perception and the methodological choices of researchers. This allows us to understand how theories are built around time and to establish a typology according to these two criteria: the perception of time and the methodological approach.
