Abstract
Fintech has generated disruptive innovations across industries, and a stable Fintech ecosystem is critical for the development of the Fintech sector. However, existing studies mainly focus on Fintech ecosystems within financial industries, while the extended effects of Fintech services on operations management in non-financial industries remain underexplored. Drawing on the service ecosystem perspective, this study investigates how Fintech companies reshape Fintech service ecosystems through service exchange and resource integration. We conduct an in-depth case study of a leading Fintech company in China that provides third-party payment and merchant acquiring services. Our findings reveal two evolutionary stages of Fintech service ecosystems: an extension stage, in which Fintech services are embedded into operational processes of client firms, and an expansion stage, in which data-driven services enable broader collaboration among ecosystem participants. This study is in progress and may contribute to Fintech and service ecosystem literature by explaining the mechanisms through which Fintech services reshape ecosystems beyond traditional financial sectors.
