Abstract

As information systems continue to evolve, frameworks must adapt to ensure that best practices remain relevant and effective in the organizational context. In this regard, ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) underwent a significant update in 2019, resulting in the phasing out of version 3 in favor of ITIL 4. This article critically analyzes the transition from ITIL V3 to ITIL 4, highlighting the main conceptual and structural changes introduced. It also examines the practical implications of implementing ITIL 4 in IT Service Management (ITSM) and assesses whether ITIL V3 has become completely obsolete in light of current industry practices.
