Abstract

The increasing complexity of information visualisations makes them more difficult to comprehend. This article outlines a six-step process for creating visual narratives that combine effective narrative techniques with the principles of information visualisation, adapting them for the target audience. This information visualisation-based process consists of six steps that aim to foster comprehension through visual narratives. This approach was applied in a practical case study examining the impact of remote working on sector productivity. The study involved analysing and reformulating visualisations based on these steps, thereby demonstrating the potential of this approach to transform complex visualisations into clear, comprehensible information. The results obtained prove the usefulness of data storytelling as a tool for visual communication and visual literacy development.
