Description
The Internet of Things enables increasingly decentralized generation of digital data and thus forms the basis for new data-driven value creation. The collection, storage and utilization of data is not limited to individual companies; rather, different players gathering in IoT ecosystems to jointly shape digital value creation. Methods like the e3-value ontology are used to model and evaluate roles and value exchanges in such ecosystems. In this paper we detail the value exchanges based on an accounting perspective to better capture the value creation process in IoT ecosystems. We conduct a qualitative interview series. Our findings are applied and expanded in a real-world case study in a manufacturing context
