Description
One of the challenges in information systems education is developing IT artifacts such as serious games that can facilitate collaborative learning with regard to solving complex and unstructured problems. In this study, a serious game, namely, wicked educational information system (WEIS) was developed using the design science methodology. A business firm designed the WEIS in collaboration with a university laboratory and the laboratory assessed its efficacy as a pedagogical tool for improving students' collaborative learning. We found that the use of design science helped in developing a valid WEIS. Students who used WEIS collaboratively had significantly better learning scores compared to students who experienced traditional teaching methods. In addition, the interaction of gender and instruction method was significant.
