Abstract
Abstract This paper presents a comprehensive framework for designing Business Analytics programs (Gorman and Klimberg, 2014; Wilder and Ozgur, 2015) that integrate soft skills, hard skills, and professional certificates, catering to the multifaceted needs of students and industry stakeholders. Recognizing the dynamic nature of the Business Analytics field, characterized by rapid technological advancements and evolving business requirements, this holistic approach aims to equip students with a well-rounded skill set that enhances their employability and prepares them for success in diverse professional contexts. The integration of soft skills, including communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork (Meeks, 2017; Majid et al., 2019; Marin-Zapata et al., 2022), alongside hard skills such as data visualization, machine learning, and scripting languages, forms the foundation of this framework. By intertwining technical knowledge with practical applications, students develop a deep understanding of analytical techniques while honing their ability to communicate insights effectively, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and adapt to complex business challenges. Furthermore, the inclusion of professional certificates complements the academic curriculum by providing students with specialized training in industry-relevant tools, methodologies, and domains. These certificates, endorsed by reputable organizations and industry leaders, serve as valuable credentials that validate students' proficiency in specific areas of business analytics, enhancing their credibility and marketability in the job market. Through a case study, this paper demonstrates the transformative impact of integrating soft skills, hard skills, and professional certificates in the design of Business Analytics programs at Hawaii Pacific University. By embracing a holistic approach to education, institutions can empower students to become versatile and agile professionals capable of driving innovation, fostering collaboration, and delivering actionable insights in an increasingly competitive business landscape.
