Abstract

This paper investigates the integration of gamification and digital storytelling in interactive learning environments, focusing on a murder mystery narrative as an educational tool. Using Design Science Research and Students as Partners frameworks, the study develops a conceptual model to analyse learners' behavioural and motivational engagement. A sample module demonstrates how narrative-driven, game-inspired features—such as leaderboards, achievements, and interactive clues—promote deeper learning, teamwork, and knowledge retention. Findings reveal that embedding educational content within an interactive story could boost motivation, collaboration, and contextual understanding. The case illustrates how these innovative methods could transform traditional learning settings, offering more engaging and personalised educational experiences that connect theoretical concepts with practical applications.
