Abstract
Project Based learning (PBL) is a teaching method that provides an opportunity for educators to develop high quality learning resources and assess their teaching practices. For students, PBL broadens experiential learning opportunities and promotes deep learning. This encourages students to critically think and collaboratively solve problems as they engage with real-world business challenges in their Information Systems (IS) Capstone subject at an Australian University. In this subject, the learning objectives are accomplished by applying concepts taught throughout the duration of their undergraduate degree. In an era marked by widening digital skills gap in the global Information Technology ecosystem, providing experiential learning opportunities for students require substantial effort from educators. In this opinion paper, we present an exploratory approach to project development that enables students to independently investigate and understand project functionalities. This approach empowered students to develop the project functionalities based on a review of literature and deliver the business requirements using a low-code platform in the healthcare industry.
