Description
The healthcare sector worldwide encounters various challenges, including rising costs, increased demand, and staff shortages, necessitating resource efficiency and innovative digital solutions. Accessibility to quality healthcare remains limited due to, for example, inadequate facilities and insurance coverage. The COVID-19 pandemic exposed weaknesses in global healthcare infrastructure, prompting the rapid adoption of digital health and telemedicine solutions. Emerging technologies like the metaverse and AI offer promising prospects, revolutionizing diagnostics, treatment, and patient care. Despite growing interest in emerging technologies for healthcare, it is rare to find insights about their use cases, opportunities and barriers in this context. A systematic literature review (SLR) is underway to examine current research on emerging healthcare technologies, aiming to uncover gaps and provide recommendations for future implementation. Therefore, research questions focus on the current status and potential research streams of emerging healthcare technologies.
