Description
As the world's population ages, the population affected by neurological and mental disorders (NMD) continues to rise. NMD patients represent one significant economic burden to the healthcare system. In this framework, conversational agents (CA) can offer a promising solution to deliver accessible, Taylor-made healthcare solutions. In this paper, we conducted a systematic literature review identifying the status quo of the implementations of CAs for NMDs. Our results exhibit the presence of seven research streams, focusing overall on Parkinson’s disease and the implementation of text-based chatbots for therapeutic purposes. Against this background, we provide research and practical implications for future information systems (IS) literature development and reduce the strain on the healthcare system.
