Abstract
The still-unfolding global pandemic calls for agility of a very different kind. Informed by previous research, we conceptualise digital agility in extreme contexts as organisational ability to transform from chaos to complexity. In this research, we investigate the role of digital platform ecosystems in achieving such agility. By drawing insights from a qualitative case study of an Australian university, interpreted through the theoretical lense of coevolution, we explain how digital agility unfolds in extreme contexts. We theorise different mechanisms that capture an ongoing, mutually-shaping interplay between the organisation’s strategic responses and its digital platform ecosystem.
