Abstract

Intelligent personal assistants (IPA), mainly carried by smart phones and speakers, have become a part of people's daily life. Although the popularity of IPA is increasing, user engagement with IPA is not enough. However, there is a lack of knowledge about how to increase user engagement in IPA. To fill this gap, we build a research model based on the para-social relationship theory and attachment theory. Based on the extensive review of the literature, we believe that functional and social characteristics of IPA will significantly affect IPA engagement through users' functional and emotional attachment towards IPA. Items scales will be developed and data will be collected through a laboratory experiment. Then ANOVA and structural equation model (SEM) will be applied to validate the model.
