Abstract
The troubled relationship of business and IT has been core to IS research since decades. In the context of big data analytics, there is a new relationship emerging, namely that between business and data science professionals. Similar to business and IT, these groups are heterogonous along various aspects, e.g. knowledge and communication. In order to prevent IS from being caught in another troubled marriage again, we conduct a multidisciplinary Delphi study and provide insights into the gap between the groups and discover approaches how to bridge it. Specifically, we find numerous similarities between the two relationships, but differences regarding the liabilities. Thus, we contribute to IS literature by diagnosing and treating a novel IS relationship in the context of big data analytics. Moreover, we support managers of data-driven organizations by showing paths how to manage this new relationship to increase implementation success of big data analytics.
