Abstract
The negative impact of being overweight on the physical and mental health of a person makes its treatment essential. Unfortunately, the traditional approaches to drastic dietary change mostly lead to short-term success, but have little effect in the long term. Thus, we suggest substituting recipe ingredients to slightly but consistently improve the nutritional values of preferred dishes. However, generating substitutes that do not considerably influence the consistency and taste is difficult. Therefore, we propose a crowdsourcing-based system with gamification elements for collecting, evaluating, and suggesting healthier substitutes for the individual ingredients of a recipe to users. The results of a conducted focus group interview suggest that the described application is beginner-friendly and that the ingredient substitution approach is easy to implement in daily life. Furthermore, insights on preferences and the perception of various motivational elements could be drawn.
