Abstract

Correlation study isn’t new in research and development. It became trend that grabs the researchers attention from a while ago until recent years from various areas. The purpose of performing the correlation study is to identify the relationship between two variables whether both has the connection or the other way round. Among all the correlation study that been made by researches is including research assessment with bibliometric analysis. The diversity medium in application of bibliometric analysis, shows it still one of matured and trustable study that has been exists in knowledge environment. There are also numbers of bibliometric indicator that can be used in the correlation study namely as total numbers of publication, citation analysis, citation indexing, informetric, altmetric, scientometric and webometric. In this study, the total number of publication is the elected among all the indicators. In this study, the main objective is to identify the relationship between selected peer review assessments which is D-Setara, Qs World Ranking (QS) and The Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THEWUR) with the elected bibliometric analysis which is total number of publication. The purpose in performing the correlation study is to identify the utilization bibliometric analysis in order to recognize whether the current ranking can represent and be a measurement indicator that can measure actual performance in research and publication in engineering. Data were retrieved from Scopus’s database within duration time 20 years started from June 1995 until June 2015, with total of 295 504 total of publications. Due to limitation numbers participated institution in every subject area, engineering become the center of attention due to most of the institution are present in that subject area. Before performing correlation analysis, data were analyzed beforehand in order to identify it has the normal distribution or the other way round. Results shows the distribution are not normal distribution, hence the spearman’s rho correlation study was selected in determine the correlation analysis. Between three correlation analyses, two of them are show positive and strong relationship which is in QS and THEWUR with the correlation value of 0.5 and 0.72. Whereas for D-Setara correlation analysis shows low relationship with the total correlation value of 0.36.
