Abstract

Intermediaries such as wholesalers and brokers have often been said to be exhausting. With the development of communication technology and the spread of the Internet, electronic commerce (EC) has become prosperous. It is a good time to reexamine the roles of the intermediaries while the EC is gaining in popularity. How can intermediaries survive in the rapidly changing circumstances? In this paper, the roles of intermediaries in traditional business are briefly examined first. Then, some business-to-business EC cases are examined which pursue a part of the intermediary's roles and notable features. Lastly, the strategies and main roles to be taken by newly-transformed intermediaries are shown.
