Abstract
As Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies become increasingly embedded in digital innovations designed to meet human needs, it is critical to evaluate their value from the user's perspective. While AI offers many benefits in adapting to evolving user needs, it also raises serious ethical and environmental concerns. This research-in-progress proposes a systematic approach for assessing the value of AI-enabled innovations to their users across three key dimensions of perceived product experience: empowerment (trust in system safety, privacy, and security), personalization (adaptability to users’ evolving needs), and sustainability (minimal negative environmental impact). Using a recent User Experience (UX) research project involving an AI-enabled eye-tracking tool capable of detecting cognitive engagement in real time, we explore how these dimensions shape the value of technology for its intended users.
