Abstract
Information technologies (IT) can significantly improve environmental awareness. Mobile Applications (Apps) can increase environmental education and motivate people to develop actions to mitigate climatic changes like recycling. This research project was carried out in an academic context to improve ecological literacy by promoting positive habits when managing data on recycling. Based on environmental Eco-Schools program requirements and user needs, an Android mobile App was developed that allows individuals to register and monitor their collected waste for recycling. User tests were conducted with 30 participants to evaluate the App usefulness and usability. The results reveal that the App is usable and offers a proper user experience. Participants realized the App benefits because they were willing and motivated to use it in the future which can contribute to the improvement of the environmental awareness and literacy of the academic population.
