Abstract
The prevalence of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) is increasing, and they represent digital assets such as art, music, films etc. NFTs are typically stored on the blockchain, which provides a certificate of authenticity or proof of ownership. This paper explores how non-fungible tokenization impacts creative entrepreneurship and how creators (i.e., creative entrepreneurs) harness it in their work. In so doing, it focuses on creators’ motivations and experiences in their artistic creation process. Our analysis shows that NFTs enable greater flexibility in creators’ expression and efficient monetization. Moreover, creators use NFT creators for community engagement and value creation. The paper contributes to the discourse on tokenization in business and society and provides insights into specific domains of creative entrepreneurship.
