Abstract
The European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) excel- lence model, designed for the first time at the beginning of the Nineties and for- malized in 2013, was recently updated in the new version of 2020. Although the foundations of the model remained unchanged, relevant modifications in the model’s framework are destined to impact the future empirical and theoretical debate. Therefore, there is a need for review work that can represent reference points for future development of the topic. In this paper, we present a systematic literature review concerning the works published in the top journal of the ABS list on the EFQM excellence model. In particular, we focused on theoretical and empirical articles, giving a descriptive and thematic picture of the literature, and reflecting on the future research opportunities.
