Abstract

In this study we explored the potential dynamics in point-to-point accommodations and their manifestation in the insertion of hosts on such platforms, in order to demonstrate, from a sociotechnical and systemic view, the role of hosts in the practices arising from the shared economy. Specifically, we assessed the difficulties, problems, and impact of the implementation of accommodation on the AirBnB platform in a non-inducing destination, with limited hotel infrastructure and involving individuals with a still incipient digital culture about disruptive technologies. Using the methodological approach of action research, the study was based on interventions in the community and actions with the participating citizens in order to benefit the actors and the ecosystem of the destination's service, with the main results: the emergence of new beds in the destination, the process of tourist and hotel development in the region, and essentially, the technological appropriation by the participating in the research.
