Abstract
This study addresses the topic of sustainable development achieved through the smart environment paradigm. This concept involves the synergy of advanced ICT technologies, the Internet of Things (IoT) and big data analysis to optimise resources, minimise environmental entropy in urbanised areas, understood as a state of chaos, ecological degradation and the uncontrolled dispersion of energy and pollutants, and improve residents’ quality of life. This article fills a research gap in the analysis of the diffusion of smart technologies in households, taking into account territorial determinants (town size) and the socio-demographic characteristics of users. For the purposes of this article, the results of a CAWI survey conducted on 1,080 adult Poles using a stratified sampling method were analysed. The analyses revealed which smart technologies are most popular in households and enabled the identification of further considerations and final conclusions.
