Abstract

While prior studies extensively explored digital transformation in for-profit and public organisations, the challenges faced by nonprofits remain under-investigated. This study attempts to bridge this gap in the literature by conducting an exploratory case study within a nonprofit organisation in Sweden. Semi-structured interviews and internal document reviews were used to collect data. The thematic analysis revealed fifteen distinct barriers that hinder nonprofit organisations from realising the anticipated results of digital transformation. The findings provide a foundation for further research on digital transformation in organisations engaged in the nonprofit industry. Moreover, practitioners can also leverage these insights to inform their own digital transformation journeys.
