About ISD2021

The 29th International Conference on Information Systems Development (ISD2021 Valencia) was hosted by Universitat Politècnica de València, Spain, on 8–10 September, 2021.

The theme of ISD2021 was Crossing Boundaries between Development and Operations (DevOps) in Information Systems. The conference focused on influences among information systems, organizational structures, and processes and people from the conception of a system to its operation.

ISD2021 comprised six tracks encompassing both full papers and new ideas/vision papers. Submissions were reviewed according to the high standards of scientific rigor applied in peer review. Each paper was reviewed by at least three members of the program committee, following the double-blind review guidelines. The reviewers assessed the submissions in terms of their novelty, significance, and potential impact, and were instructed to carefully consider weightings across these criteria. All review discussions were overseen by the Program Track Chairs and the Program Chairs, and the final decisions were taken by the Program Chairs taking into account the recommendations of the Track Chairs.

ISD2021 received 129 submissions—100 full papers and 29 new ideas/visions papers—with authors from 25 countries and 5 continents. Three new ideas/visions papers were desk-rejected. Overall, 51 full papers and 14 new ideas/visions papers were accepted for presentation at the conference, resulting in acceptance rates of 51% and 53.8%, respectively. The ISD2021 program was complemented with the presentation of 6 posters and 3 journal-first papers. In addition, the conference hosted three excellent invited talks, by Len Bass (Adjunct Faculty Member at the Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, USA), Jean Vanderdonckt (Professor at the Université catholique de Louvain, Belgium), and J. Alberto Conejero (Professor at the Universitat Politècnica de València, Spain).

Finally, the 16 best full papers of the conference, representing 16% of the submitted full papers, were invited by the International Steering Committee to publish an extended version in a separate volume of the Lecture Notes in Information Systems and Organization (LNISO, volume 55) series, published by Springer (https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-3-030-95354-6).
