Abstract
With increasing resource consumption, sustainable interventions have become critical. This literature review employs human analysis complemented by AI tools to offer a novel approach how to conduct literature reviews, specifically examining the potential factors of a Smart Home System (SHS) that enhance or hinder its effectiveness. Analyzing 36 articles, the review not only covers the three pillars of sustainability — environmental, economic, and social — but also goes further by inductively identifying factors influencing SHS usage. While many studies highlight SHS’s potential to reduce resource consumption, our findings reveal varied outcomes. This highlights the need for further research into long-term effectiveness, impacts, and the potential spillover and rebound effects of SHS, underscoring the complexity of sustainable interventions.
