Abstract

Digital innovation is a transformative process that allows organizations to create new products, services, or processes using digital technologies. While this innovation is essential for maintaining competitiveness, the uncertainty inherent in digital innovation trajectories poses significant challenges, particularly for established organizations. Unlike agile start-ups, which can easily adapt to rapid technological changes, established firms often struggle due to their complex legacy systems and risk-averse approaches. This study addresses a notable gap in the literature by examining how these organizations can navigate the uncertainties of digital innovation by strategically narrowing their innovation trajectories. By detailing how standards can be implemented and ecosystems developed, firms can effectively manage uncertainty and drive sustained growth in an evolving digital landscape.
