Abstract
Psychological ownership has received increasing attention in service research, yet evidence concerning its antecedents and consequences remains fragmented across service domains. Drawing on psychological ownership theory, this study develops an integrative meta-analytic framework for examining psychological ownership in service contexts. Through a systematic literature search and concept-based variable classification, we identified and coded 152 independent empirical studies. We aim to synthesize the identified relationships using multilevel random-effects models. Specifically, we aim to examine control, investment, and knowing as established ownership-building routes and to consider further relational connectedness, reflected in trust, identification, and belongingness. We further aim to investigate how psychological ownership is associated with cognitive, affective, and behavioral responses, including both favorable outcomes and territorial behavior. The proposed synthesis is expected to consolidate dispersed empirical findings, clarify the antecedent-consequence structure of psychological ownership, and provide implications for understanding and managing consumers’ ownership feelings in service relationships.
