Abstract

Drawing on consumption value theory and the “value–satisfaction–behavioral intention” framework, this study analyzes survey data from 334 Chinese urban residents to examine how perceived value shapes continuance intention for smart community service platforms. Results show that service content significantly boosts functional value, whereas platform operational and interactive mechanisms do not. Notably, relational recognition exerts a significant negative effect on emotional value, uncovering the dark side of relationship-building. Satisfaction, driven by both functional and emotional value, strongly predicts continuance intention. These findings highlight the need to prioritize core service reliability and cautiously manage relational closeness, offering critical correctives for sustainable, resident-centric smart community development.
