Abstract
This literature review aims to identify interventions that trigger mechanisms that affect the complex challenge of the digital divide. The focus is on empirical articles and practical interventions. Surprisingly few empirical articles were found in top journals. 32 articles were included in this study. The findings include emerging insights regarding types of interventions that generate positive outcomes in come contexts. Initial findings suggest that community-based, multipronged interventions can help, at least in the short term. It is clear that further studies, especially empirical studies, are needed to determine which interventions are effective in which contexts. Directions for future research include deeper analysis of the various community actors and their interrelationships, approaches to digital innovation and transformation in low-resource environments, consideration of AI tools in particular, and the impact on and role of firms, especially entrepreneurs from marginalized communities.
