Panel 8

Abstract

Identity and impact are pertinent concepts in higher education and are linked to personal, professional and social conceptions and measures of value. A strong sense of self and social identity are important for the establishment of individual and collective impact pathways, and for accessing opportunities for career progression and personal development. An initiative of the IEEE Socio-Technical Systems Committee and the AIS Women’s Network College, the panel will explore and reimagine conceptions of self-identity, social identity and societal impact from the perspective of information systems (IS) community members. The panel will focus on the challenges experienced with respect to self and social identity development, including their influence on individual and collective impact pathways, and personal and professional growth opportunities. The intention is to determine how we can best navigate the tensions relating to individual and collective identity within our unique contexts.
