Abstract
Multi-platforms are networks of platforms that integrate resources and services from diverse platforms. Understanding their scope is vital for strategic decision-making as companies increasingly engage with multi-platforms. Multi-platforms integrate specific other platforms to an emergent composition of platforms, and their scope comprises the entirety of its functionality offered. This research proposes to determine the scope of multi-platforms using a network science methodology. It starts with a network concept to model the multi-platform and instantiates it with data into a network model to interpret it and to derive insights. Initial findings from analyzing the ChatGPT platform suggest that this approach is suitable for describing and assessing the scope of multi-platforms. Besides contributing to the understanding of multi-platforms, the research promises practical implications for guiding multi-platform design and platform strategies.
