Abstract
Enterprise Architecture (EA) practice has been seen as a promising approach for enhancing business and information technology alignment (BITA) within an organization. Deemed as an essential enabler for effective EA practice, obtaining EA stakeholder engagement, however, remains challenging with limited prior studies on this important topic. This paper aims to explore how organizations can enhance EA stakeholder engagement to improve BITA. By conducting a case study with a private banking organization in Australia, a list of influential EA stakeholder engagement factors and the internal mechanisms of how EA stakeholder engagement improves BITA have been identified. By combining all empirical findings, this study proposes a theoretical model to complement and extend existing theoretical foundations of EA practice and provides evidence that demonstrates how effective EA stakeholder engagement can improve organizational alignment at the strategic, structural, and social levels.
