Panel 2

Abstract

The quest for more sustainability is today more important than ever. Societies are transforming worldwide to reduce carbon emissions while also becoming more socially inclusive. By now, our community has a tradition of contributing to these movements. Green IS has been around as subfield of the Information Systems community for more than a decade. However, while a majority seems to be in agreement that we, as a field, should think about our impact on society, it seems more contentious whether the Information Systems field should engage in sustainability scholarship. In this panel, we therefore want to discuss the role of Green IS within the IS community, how it can be strengthened, the need for corresponding interdisciplinarity and the role of digital for the future of our societies.

Green Is Everywhere And Nowhere Should Information Systems Scholarship Engage In Sustainability?
