Abstract

Scholars widely debate digital transformation (DT) initiatives considering multiple aspects and different business sectors, as well as examining implications for individuals and organisations. However, few of them discuss similar issues focusing specifically on non-profit organisations (NPOs). The interest in investigating DT in NPOs derives from how NPOs strive to reach their objectives, which often they differ significantly from those of public and for-profit firms. This research is built on a taxonomy of papers resulting from the analysis and review of the literature strictly discussing DT in NPOs. In order to map the state of the art, we perform a cluster analysis of that classification. This study contributes to the DT debate describing the distinctive traits of DT initiatives in NPOs and their correlations. Moreover, the results could be useful for NPOs managers and policymakers in supporting their decisions in designing and implementing DT initiatives.
