Abstract

Project management plays a fundamental role in boosting the success of organizations' projects. However, regardless of the quality of management, it is normal for changes to arise during a project. It is, therefore, important to analyze the impact of these changes before incorporating them into project execution to ensure that success is not affected. The current techniques for assessing the impact of changes have several limitations; in particular, they do not take into account the potential impact of changes on the various aspects of project management (e.g., scope, cost, time, resources, communication, risk, procurement, success, etc.). To help overcome this shortcoming, this article proposes a new technique that systematizes the recording and assessment of changes in information technology and systems projects by identifying and weighing up the possible impacts considering all the knowledge areas of project management.
