Abstract

The integration of digital innovation and information systems in the design of competitive and sustainable tourism development projects, as well as the development of the digital competence of tourism managers, may be essential to consolidate the strategic management and planning of sustainable cities and communities, which keep the residents and invite visitors to invest, live and study in these places. It is intended through the current study, to analyse the implications that the use of innovation and information systems, as well as the development of digital competence of tourism managers, has, in the design of sustainable tourism projects in the municipality of Abrantes. In this article, we present the methodological proposal designed to investigate these implications. It is thus a contribution to reflect on the strategies to be adopted, regarding the investigation of the implications of information systems, innovation and digital competence in the design and management of sustainable projects, whose continuity will consist of the analysis of innovation trends combined with a systematic literature review, in order to assess which are the best national and international practices in this regard, which in a second phase of the study will contribute to the proposal of a training guide for tourism managers in these areas, whose application is planned at the end of the study.
