Abstract

This study focuses on the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the domain of waste management. Waste management refers to the collection, disposal, recycling, upcycling, security, surveillance and governance of waste from both households and businesses. Effective waste management is a global issue and has social, economic, and geopolitical implications for nations around the world. This study takes a macro level approach to how companies can leverage AI to improve outcomes with waste management and comply with local, state, and federal government compliance. This work-in-progress study used a mixed methodology to explore the adoption of AI technologies to assist landfills with waste management compliance. This specific context area is relevant to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, environmental sustainability, the circular economy and business longevity and profitability.
